![]() If I click 3D buildings- not all areas have it- but you can start to see that the buildings are starting to get a little bit of texture to them. One quick thing I will show you while I am in New York City is the 3D buildings. And it allows you to learn more about an area. There's many different things you can do there. And sometimes you'll see multiple photos from the same spot. So when you click on one of these little icons, you can get a photo. If I Click Photos, now I get all these little dots on my screen. If I click Places, now I start getting names of cities, names of geographical points like oceans, rivers, et cetera. And then if I add layers- for example, borders and labels- then I get state, and country borders, and of course the labels for what I'm looking at. So I'm going to take all layers off, so you can see what it looks like without the layers. You can put in the weather, all kinds of different things. Layers let you overlay the map with all kinds of different information from the roads to 3D buildings. ![]() The next thing I want to show you on the left-hand side of the screen are what are known as Layers. So use the Search engine up here in the upper left to quickly find things that you want to look for. And it will bring you directly to that spot. You can type in a full address if you know an exact address. And it'll immediately take me to that point. So if I type in something like Empire State Building, it knows what I'm talking about. So in the upper-left-hand side of your screen, here is the Search box. Because it is a Google product, Google excels in search. So I can zoom back out and get a clearer view of that area. I'm only 1,400 feet above the water slide. The closer I zoom in to a particular point, the more blurry you may find that the image becomes. So at the moment, we're 7,000 feet above this city. And then way over on the right-hand side, depending on how far you've zoomed in, you can see where you would be approximately in height. We have the exact coordinates of where we're pointing on this map right here, including the elevation of this particular point on the Earth. And it tells us that the image that we're currently looking at was taken in March of 2012. And we can look at the bottom left-hand side of this map. Some areas get a real high-resolution image. The clarity of the image depends on the resolution of the image based on that particular area. And then depending on the speed of your internet connection, if you just pause for a few seconds, you will notice that the image becomes clearer and clearer. You can see, when I zoom in, that the picture starts out blurry. You can scroll in or scroll out to zoom very quickly into an area. You can accomplish the same thing if you have a rotating mouse wheel on your mouse. Finally, this bottom tool is to zoom in and out of the location that you're looking at. ![]() I think it's easier to click and drag the Earth whatever direction you'd like it to move. Next, you can use the Move tool down below to rotate the Earth and orient it in right to left, up and down. You can rotate the Earth by rotating the compass. The one on the top is putting north at the top of the screen like a normal map. If you look over on the right-hand side, you've got a series of tools. When you're looking at the Earth here, you can click and drag the Earth, and orient it in any direction you'd like. They're usually between one and three years old. First, I wanted to clarify that, when you're using Google Earth and viewing the images that are created in Google Earth, they are not live images. PRESENTER: After you install Google Earth, you will be presented with this screen here and we're going to give you a quick overview today of how to use Google Earth. ![]() ![]() ![]() I can only give them instructions like “. Sometimes I wish that my hands can pass through the laptop screen and directly fix their mistakes! But during online learning, my hands cannot reach them. Normally during lesson, you can walk to student’s desks, talk to them directly, pointing and correcting their mistakes directly on their devices, notebooks, or paper handouts. What I feel really different between meeting students physically and virtually is the way I can give them direct feedback. Although online meeting and teleconference has been popular, teacher and students cannot have two ways communication as freely as they used to have in normal classroom. One of the main challenge in teaching online is how interaction is very much limited. Fortunately, our school already moved to technology integrated classroom or paperless education as we say three years prior to this big event, so that our teachers and students already get used to the basics of teaching and learning online. We already started our home based learning since March 2020. And we don’t know how much longer we should stay at home and conduct almost everything online. Believe it or not, eight months has passed since students left the school campus to their family home for safety. The corona virus has changed how education run in this year. But thankfully I can still use Kami App to make effective online classroom interaction with students. They can also use the Chat feature to communicate in real-time.No more blackboard. As students work, they’ll see each other’s comments in the file. You can also add instructions by placing “comments” throughout the document at those points in the text where you want the student to add their thoughts. ![]() Be sure to include instructions at the start of your document. Make a copy of the document and set it up for each group. Set their permissions to “Can comment.” You can click the Send button and each student in the group will be sent an email invite, or just use Classroom assignments to send it to them. To do so, create a Google Doc, click on the Share button and invite a group of students. While the user interface is not suited to whole-class collaboration, consider using the Comments feature in Google Docs as an activity in your learning stations or centers. ![]() Using this feature, you can turn a document into a group collaboration. The Google “G Suite for Education,” which includes Google Classroom, offers a group collaboration tool in Google Docs. Now that TeacherMade is available, you no longer have to force Kami into a use case it wasn’t meant for.įor many, adding Chrome extensions to your school computers is not an option. (Note: Some Teachers have been using Kami as a way for students to fill in worksheets, assignments, quizzes, etc. If your school utilized Smartboards to project and draw on webpages, Kami emulates that on a smaller screen-perfect for remote teaching! Plus, it easily integrates with Google Classroom to help teachers create a seamless digital experience for their students. As an added bonus, teachers can send real-time feedback to student submissions, saving plenty of time in the long-run. It’s the perfect tool for promoting classroom engagement without the added hassle of converting paper documents into digital formats. To put it into context, Kami lets teachers convert any existing document, scanned worksheets included, into an interactive file. Touting itself as a “digital classroom hero” for teachers everywhere, Kami promotes interactivity and that all-important collaboration between teachers and students. ![]() ![]() ![]() The output will be identical to how it looks now, so make sure all is good.
